While the Jacquard loom dealt with the upheaval of traditional manual processes and the fear of mechanized labor replacing human touch, the telegraph fundamentally reimagined how we communicate over distances. Project Starline is much closer in spirit to the telegraph because it, too, tackles issues of communication:
Both seek to address a void: The telegraph filled the gap of slow, physically limited communication; Project Starline addresses how modern digital communication often falls short of genuine human presence.
Both required a shift in trust and perception: Just as society had to learn to trust messages transmitted over wires, we are now learning to trust that mediated, digital interactions can capture the nuances of real human connection.
